The School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences is seeking to appoint a 0.5% FTE Research Assistant for a fixed-term period of 12 months. The position is to support the empirical/experimental wing of the research project “Expecting Ourselves: Embodied Prediction and the Construction of Conscious Experience” funded by the European Research Council. The project is led by Prof. Andy Clark and the empirical wing by Dr David Carmel.

The successful candidate will be responsible primarily for assisting with empirical aspects of the project, including experiments involving eye-tracking, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), fear conditioning and measurement of skin conductance responses. The work will include important research-related activities, such as programming and preparing other experimental materials; recruiting and testing participants; and assisting with data analysis. The position also includes lab-related administrative duties, such as maintaining a database of TMS participants and liaising with the local MRI facility at the Western General Hospital.
