Post-doc Position in Early Mathematics Development

A postdoctoral research position is anticipated in the Department of Psychology and Human Development at Vanderbilt University working in the research group led by Dr. Bethany Rittle-Johnson. The position is to help lead a new study exploring the roles of pattern and spatial skills in early mathematics development. The study involves both longitudinal and intervention research with preschool children to examine the unique predictive and causal contributions of pattern and spatial skills to early mathematics development. The aim is to identify malleable cognitive processes underlying the acquisition of mathematics knowledge and skills. The post-doctoral fellow will be expected to help lead the design, implementation, analysis and dissemination of results and to provide mentorship to graduate students. This is a three-year study that has been recommended for funding (final approval pending).
We seek a highly qualified applicant who has earned a doctorate degree in psychology, education or a related field. Candidates with expertise in spatial and/or math cognition, experience conducting research with children, and a first-author journal publication are preferred, and applicants from underrepresented minorities are especially encouraged to apply. The position carries a stipend plus health insurance coverage. Review of applications will begin immediately. The appointment will begin July 2016 for an initial period of one year; position is eligible for renewal.
