PhD position in Brussels


A Phd-research position in psychology is available for 4 years funded by the FWO (Research Foundation Flanders). The project will be done together with prof. Marie Vandekerckhove, Department of Clinical and Lifespan psychology/ Department of Clinical studies and Imaging, Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Brussels/Department of Developmental, Personality and Social Psychology, University of Ghent, Ugent, Belgium- and prof. James Gross, Psychophysiology lab of the University of Stanford (VS). The research will be implemented in collaboration with the Department of Data analysis, UGent.

What? The successful candidate will work on the experimental investigation of ‘experiential emotion regulation’ as a crucial working mechanism within experiential psychotherapy and within the recovery of stressful events. The aim of the project is to disentangle experiential emotion regulation in its subprocesses and to assess respective effectiveness on the behavioral- and on the neurophysiological level. The doctoral student will be responsible for the development of experiments, collection and analysis of behavioral and neuroscience data, publication and dissemination of the results.

Profile? The candidate needs a -Research- Master in psychology/behavioral sciences, bio-medical sciences, or affective- and cognitive neuroscience, or related areas. Excellent English communication and writing skills are required. Methodological and statistical competence, experience with experimental research, psychophysiological methods, and/or neuroimaging techniques is considered as advantageous. Interested candidates can apply by e-mail, providing a motivation letter and full curriculum vitae, including university study results and the names and contact information of at least two references.
